Northern Research and Innovation Platform is a two year (2009- 2011) project, aiming to support research and development activities in the field of the environment, energy and sustainable use of natural resources. The project supports the innovation creation, diffusion and use especially in lines of mining and bio energy industry. The project brings together universities, research institutes, companies and technology transfer organsations in the North, providing a new opportunity for informal collaboration, with the aim of achieving a common vision, strategic research agenda and action plan for the Northern Research Platfrom.
The Northern Research and Innovation Platform aim to:
- increase and speed up innovations in the fields of the environment, energy and sustainable use of natural resources, and environmental changes in northern regions and in man's operational prerequisites.
- promote a new collaboration culture for northern research and innovation infrastructure
- generate and support participation in large-scale interdisciplinary cross-border research projects in the North
- draft a cooperation strategy for research and development related to the Northern Dimension
- influence the contents of both national and international research programmes
- receive more international and EU funding for the North
The Northern Research and Innovation Platform project is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the City of Oulu. The project is coordinated by the University of Oulu, Thule Institute.
Northern Research and Innovation Platform project is searching research partners for common research projects in the fields of the environment, energy and sustainable use of natural resources, especially from the other countries in the North (e.g. Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Russia, Canada, Japan)!
